Before you board

Travel informed, not just booked.

Recent rider reports are mixed. Here's what shows up most often, so you can plan around it rather than be surprised by it.

  • Safety

Modern Coast has had a number of serious accidents in recent years, including a fatal 2022 crash that led Kenya's transport authority to briefly suspend its operations. Check current safety standing before long-haul or overnight trips.

  • Timing

Reviewers frequently report departure delays, sometimes several hours, especially on cross-border routes with immigration stops. Build slack into any onward connection.

  • Comfort

Air conditioning and cleanliness are inconsistent across the fleet according to recent reviews — some buses match the VIP billing, others don't.

  • Tip

If you're shipping a parcel, get a tracking reference and hold onto it — some readers report delays locating parcels in transit.
